HOU1512 skill.JPGStudents at Feltham Skills Centre helped build their own workshop by laying a concrete base.

The 16 and 17-year-olds helped lecturers and contractors lay the 60sq m floor for a new brickwork workshop last week to get experience of working on site.

The students at the college in Boundaries Road stopped only once to enjoy a hot drink and pasty made freshly by the centre's catering class.

gcse for web.jpgEarly predictions are suggesting that Feltham Community College's GCSE results might have earned it the title of Britain's most improved school.

Jubilation filled the school hall as 42% of pupils achieved five A*-C grades including maths and English compared with just 24% last year.

The struggling school has experienced a remarkable turnaround since head teacher Victoria Eadie took over last September and teachers who have taught at the Browell's Lane school for years were amazed at the results.

Staff and students at Oriel Primary School are celebrating a glowing Ofsted report.

Government inspectors said the school, in Hounslow Road, Hanworth, had 'improved 100 per cent' since their last visit. They rated it 'good' overall, the second highest of four possible grades.

Feltham Community College in Browells Lane will be a hive of activity this August with loads of fun things for local kids aged 7 - 15 to do. There is a family membership of £30. Families on benefits or low income can get financial help to take part so they don't miss out. Easter Contender Am Box.jpgDuring the Easter half-term Hanworth Park Safer Neighbourhood Team (Feltham police) ran "Easter Contender Am Box" for local children at Feltham Community College.

The event saw 14 young people being put through their paces over three days (15th - 17th April) by the teams qualified Amateur Boxing Association coaches. The days covered not only boxing but included subjects such as personal fitness and personal safety. With the assistance of funding from the Extended Schools project each child received a Police Community Clubs of Great Britain tee shirt and was also given a certificate of attendance.

Sergeant Darren Weston of Hanworth Park SNT said "the event was enjoyed by the children and coaches alike and follows on from an earlier successful diversionary boxing scheme that we ran at the beginning of the year for 25 children. The boxing scheme has been a real success and has taken off and led to a new Friday night club being established by us for local children in Feltham".

For more information about the new Friday night club call Hanworth Park Safer Neighbourhood Team on 0208 247 6363 or 0208 721 2535.

PCSO's Julie Dracup and Javed Akhtar of Hanworth Park Safer Neighbourhood Team (Feltham Police) have visited St Lawrence RC Primary School to speak to the children about pedal cycle safety.

Over 40 pedal cycles were security marked during the day and the children and staff were given information on a variety of crime prevention measures. PCSO Dracup said, "The event was a huge success which we hope has highlighted the importance of securing your property and not making a thief's life an easy one. It is through events like this that we hope to reduce crime in the area through education and personal empowerment".
