Priest accused of bully his flock

pwill.jpgA priest has instructed police to serve harassment warnings to five members of his congregation who have had petty disagreements with him.

Paul Williamson, who is priest-in-charge of St George's Church in Hanworth, had the police visit the homes of three men and two woman and serve written allegations of harassment forms on them.

None of the allegations have been proven but the subjects - whose offences include putting up posters in the church and accusing the priest of bullying - are devastated and some are fearing for their jobs.

Lapsed church-goers are being urged to take a leap of faith and return to the fold for a one-off service on Sunday.

All Saints Church in Hanworth is holding a special 'Back to Church' service in a bid to lure former back former members of the congregation.

The Uxbridge Road church is joining a national campaign which church bosses hope will lead half a million people to a Sunday service with family or friends this week.

Christ Church, Southville Methodist Church and St Dunstan's Church announced in a newsletter last week that they would be following advice from church leaders not to pass around the wine chalice.

The letter said: "At Holy Communion we will be following the advice to the whole Church of England not to share the chalice at present because of concern about spreading the swine flu virus.

rev for web.JPGMethodist minister John Graham is retiring after 36 years in the Church but is considering getting a paper round to keep him occupied when he hangs up his dog collar.

The 66-year-old will give his final sermon at Christ Church in Hanworth Road, Feltham on Sunday July 19 before moving to Bournemouth to spend more time by the sea.

There will be a chance to visit four places of worship in Hounslow on Sunday 21st June by joining the annual Walk of Peace and Friendship organised by Hounslow Friends of Faith. This year the event focuses on Hounslow West, a compact area with a rich variety of places of worship.

The Bishop of London, the Rt. Rev. Richard Chartres met priests, ministers and spiritual heads from Chiswick to Feltham on Monday 30th March and advised them to 'be convinced, be humble, be joyful and look cheerful in your faith'.

Christingle treats for young Scouts

christingle.jpgA special Christingle Service at St Richards Church brought joy not just for the scouts who attended but also for the two children's charities set to benefit from the collections.

The Children's Society will receive £199 and the Shooting Star Children's Hospice, in Hampton, will get £77, donated during the service at the Hanworth church.

Toy joy from generous church

toy-giveaway.jpgNot everyone can afford to splash money around to make the festive season special but 400 more children will be picking up a present this year thanks to the big-hearted congregation of Riverside Vineyards Church, in Browells Lane.

Their Children's Storehouse project, which hands out clothes and food to needy families all year round, went the extra mile by spreading Christmas cheer in the form of hundreds of gifts.

Despite the diversity of the borough of Hounslow, many people still live and socialise in their own communities with little contact with others from different cultures or faiths. Continuing their programme of informal meetings to bring people together, Hounslow Friends of Faith have organised a talk on the positive values of Islam in the UK.
