Pub owner fined for dumping waste

The owner of a derelict pub in Hanworth has been fined for refusing to move building waste off the site.

Sukhvir Singh was ordered to pay £1,000 for repeatedly ignoring requests from Hounslow Council officers to clear the site of the New Moon in Main Street.

The pub closed in June 2007 following complaints about violence and noise and a police raid in which drugs were found on the premises.

The pub is still boarded up and in July council officers ordered Mr Singh to clear the site or face prosecution but he refused to comply and was fined and ordered to pay £960 costs at Brentford Magistrates Court on November 27. Mr Singh, of Ashburn Avenue in Ilford, Essex, failed to appear in court but was prosecuted in his absence.

Council leader Peter Thompson said: "We're committed to improving anything that detracts from the look of the borough as part of our commitment towards building pride borough wide.

"Getting this eyesore cleared is a really good result for local residents, and it should serve as a warning to others who allow their land to get into such a state."

We'd like to hear from you.
