Disabled mum given nursery place for son
A disabled single mum who was denied a nursery place for her 10-month-old son has been offered six months of free childcare thanks to the Chronicle.
Claudia Chambers has been pleading with Hounslow Council to have son Taffarigh put in nursery for two days a week as she is unable to take him out of the house due to her hips collapsing during her pregnancy.
But, despite her pleas falling on deaf ears at the council, a local nursery manager read about Miss Chambers's plight in the Chronicle and has offered to take Taffarigh on for free, one day a week for six months.
Darren Bryant, who runs Crane Park neighbourhood nursery in Norman Avenue, Hanworth, made the offer to Miss Chambers last week.
Miss Chambers said: "It's fantastic news. It really would make the world of difference. It's a wonderful gesture. She's just come out of nowhere to help me out.
"I never thought anyone would be so kind to do something like this for us. To come from nowhere with such compassion is amazing."
Miss Chambers, a 36-year-old former care assistant, started to get pain last year when she was pregnant with Taffarigh. It resulted in vascular necrosis of the hips, leaving her needing a hip replacement and unlikely to walk for a minimum of three years.
She has been offered just four hours care each week but she wants Taffarigh to go to nursery two days a week as at the moment he is cooped up in her tiny flat in Hampton Road East the rest of the time.
Mrs Bryant read about her situation and decided to make the offer to help. She said: "We just thought it would be wonderful to give this little boy some day care.
"It's such a horrible situation for her. I can't imagine what it's like. It should be the happiest time of her life so we would just like to give her some support."
Miss Chambers has a meeting with Hounslow Council this month to decide whether she will be offered more childcare and has said to Mrs Bryant that she will wait until after that before officially enrolling Taffarigh at Crane Park.
