Meningitis scare girl ignored by doctors

Hayleigh, 24, of South Road, said: "I managed to get a 10.30am appointment with the out-of-hours GP clinic, but by 11am we still had not been seen and Megane had been sick all over herself and the chair.

"No one would help her and nurses and doctors were walking straight past us. One of the other people waiting gave Megane a plastic bag to use."

After reaching the end of her tether by 12.15pm, the trainee nursery nurse, who works at St Richard's Play Group, in Forge Lane, Hanworth, stormed out of the hospital.

"I couldn't look at my little girl sitting in her own vomit any longer," she said. "I wonder how long it took them to actually clean the sick up, because they didn't seem to mind it sitting there for over an hour.

"You would think with all the problems hospitals have with people contracting diseases and hygiene issues, they would make more of an effort."

Following the incident on Sunday, December 14, Hayleigh took Megane to her own GP, who diagnosed her with a chest, ear and throat infection before immediately prescribing her antibiotics.

"My GP was shocked by the way we were treated at West Middlesex Hospital and said, considering Megane's symptoms, I definitely did the right thing by taking her straight to hospital," she said.

The Harmoni Clinic is an out-of-hours GP clinic which is based at West Middlesex Hospital but is run by independent private company Harmoni.

A spokesman for Hounslow PCT said: "If doctors had been concerned they would have prioritised the patient and taken appropriate action."
