Junior Speedwatch

Posted by Lucy Proctor on Oct 14, 08 11:13 AM in Schools/colleges

Last Wednesday saw the launch of Junior Speedwatch by Hanworth Park Safer Neighbourhood Team.

The initiative is a new partnership between local police, staff and students from St Lawrence RC Primary School in Feltham.

The children helped the SN team to monitor the speed of vehicles along Elmwood Avenue in Feltham during the afternoon helping to send the message to motorists to reduce their speed.

Sergeant Darren Weston of Hanworth Park SNT said: "This was a great day for all of those involved in this project.

"It has helped the children to get to know us better, helped them to understand the wider role of the police and allowed them to be actively involved in local matters which will hopefully instil a sense of belonging and ownership of the area.

"The day was such a success that the programme is going to continue throughout the rest of the school term and will hopefully encourage other schools in the area to join in and help make our roads safer".

We'd like to hear from you.

I think that it is great that the kids are getting involved. Bravo. Maybe the fact that the kids and schools are taking an interest may rub off on some parents? Maybe?

I have to agree with Simons comments. As a mum of 2 I really worry anout the speeding cars. I hope this catches on.
