School staff get top marks

Rose, the school's welfare and attendance officer, has been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award while senior lunchtime supervisor Linda is up for a prize in the Pupil Supervisor of the Year category.

Matthew Read, head of Oriel Primary, said: Rose is dearly loved by the whole Oriel community and over many years she has been a friend and confidant to many of our families. Even after 40 years of service to the school she manages everyday to bring a fresh enthusiastic approach to life at Oriel.

Linda is a key member of our team; she ensures that our school playgrounds and dinning halls are safe, pleasant environments. Her energy and enthusiasm make her a real asset for Oriel.

The National Awards for School Support Staff is run by the National Bursars Association to raise the profile of all staff who support learning in schools. The awards recognises the outstanding effort of teaching assistants, caretakers, receptionists, librarians, cleaners and other support staff in schools.

Hounslow's education chief Paul Lynch said: Rose and Linda show that everyone involved in a school can make a positive difference to the children, and Im delighted their efforts have been recognised.

The popular pair have been invited to attend an awards ceremony in London, on October 4, where they will hear whether they have won their categories.
