Feathery friends at Crane Park
Budding farmers at Crane Park School are learning first hand where their breakfast eggs really come from after welcoming some feathery new friends into the playground last week.
The youngsters got friendly with the six chickens, and also met their MP Alan Keen, at the official coop opening on Friday.
Their school, in Norman Avenue, Hanworth, decided to bring in the birds, supported by the Probation Service and Sustainable Schools, after a cookery class revealed that many children believed eggs were made at the supermarket.
The delighted kids have now named their new pals and will be taking responsibility for looking after them and collecting their eggs.
Parent governor Janice Crook said: "They'll all be taking turns to look after the chickens and they're very excited. It's an excellent way for them to learn about food and the environment around them and hopefully the hens will start laying soon."
