Linking up for health

Health chiefs are urging people to join up to a new local watchdog - but some experts remain unconvinced about the new system.

Hounslow's Local Involvement Network (LINk) will allow anyone to shape the way health and social services are run across the borough, having replaced a number of old forums covering West Middlesex Hospital and Hounslow Primary Care Trust.

Cllr Pamela Fisher, lead member for health, said:"We are always keen to involve local residents in decision-making around all aspects of council work, and the LINk introduces a very exciting way for people to have an impact in improving health and social care services."

But Jean Doherty, former co-chair of West Mid's Patient Public and Public Involvement Forum (PPIF), said: "The old forums weren't perfect, and it could be very hard getting people involved, but at least they were attached to a specific body.

"I'm concerned the LINk will consist of a very small group of people making decisions on behalf of the wider group, rather than everyone having an input."
